Montezuma put the pedal to the metal and stood on it Friday night. Sept. 6.
The Braves put an 80-8 shot on the Moravia Mohawks in the Class 8 district opener at Badger-Gabriel Field in Montezuma.
Quarterback Brady Boulton threw for four touchdowns and ran for another one.
Broox Stockman ran for three scores, caught a touchdown pass and returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Montezuma (2-1) led 26-8 after one quarter, 45-8 at halftime and 64-8 through three quarters.
The Mohawks (0-2) lost 68-0 last week to Bedford, the top-rated team in Iowa 8-player football.
While steady on offense, the Braves put plenty of pressure on Moravia on defense. Montezuma had 11 tackles for loss, including three quarterback sacks.
The Braves had 473 yards of total offense, 243 through the air and 230 on the ground.
David Rose caught 4 passes for 149 yards and two scores.
Lars Taylor had 8 tackles for Montezuma, includint 6 solos and one tackle for loss.
Stockman, a linebacker, had 7.5 stops including 5 solos and one tackle for loss.
Braxton Plants had an active game, with 5.5 takles, including 4 solos, to go with 2 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Luke Brennan returned a recovered fumble 21 yards for a touchdown.
A total of 18 Braves were in on tackles.
Montezuma unveiled a new placekicker. Freshman Alex Becerril kicked off once for 49 yards, and was 4-for-9 on PAT kicks.
The Braves went to 2-1 on the season.
Moravia is 0-2.
