COLFAX – Name a statistical column that’s in the “good” variety, and the Montezuma Bravettes put a checkmark next to it in their road win over Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday evening, Dec. 7.

Make that a bunch of check marks. There were many participants!

Shanae Wetering scored 18 points, Jadyn Sharer had 15 and Mia Boulton dropped in 14 as the Bravettes moved their record to 5-0 overall and to 3-0 in South Iowa Cedar League play.

We are growing as a team,” said Coach Janel Burgess. “We need to continue to have balance and enjoy creating successes while on the court together.”

Montezuma shot .446 from the field, including 11-22 from behind the three-point arc. Boulton and Sharer each were four-for-six, Madison Johannes was two-for-two and Abby Cheney was one-for-one.

The Bravettes were 32-22 winners in rebounds, with Shanae Wetering leading with eight while Sharer, a guard, ran down seven.

The girls held the Tigerhawks to .256 field goal shooting, on 17 fewer attempts than the Bravettes themselves put up.

Our focus points have to remain: Defense is our best friend and we must be gritty while playing on the defensive end. We also must TALK!” Burgess said.

The Tigerhawks fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 against the league.
