MONTEZUMA – North Mahaska (17-3) vs. Montezuma (4-9) may not have looked like much of a match coming in.
But look again.
The Warhawks scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a come-from-behind 7-4 win over the Bravettes on Monday evening, June 23.
North Mahaska took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, until Montezuma rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the third.
The Bravettes led 4-3 through six.
Then, the Warhawks scored four runs in their half of the seventh and held on to win, 7-4.
The Bravettes made six hits, half of them by Chloe Snook who had a double in her collection.
Kamryn Schmidt hit a solo home run, marking the third time in three games a Bravette has ridden one out of the park.
Syd Burgess hit a double, and Ellen Cook had a single.
The Bravettes were unable to even attempt to steal a base. On the plus side, Montezuma made just one fielding error.
Leah Urfer pitched 7.0 innings for Montezuma. She allowed 9 hits and 7 runs, five of them earned. She walked three and struck out three.
Olivia Ridgeway had two hits for the Warhawks.
Kylie Van Weelden had two hits including a triple.
Kaylia Shipman drove in a run with a hit.
Regan Grewe had one hit and drove in two.
The Warhawks stole four bases, two of them by Addesen Falb.
The Warhawks made one error.
Grewe through all 7 innings for the pitching win. She yielded 6 hits and 4 runs, two of them earned. She walked one and struck out eight.
