Warhawks break away late, 8-2

North Mahaska carried a 4-2 lead over the Braves into the seventh inning, then scored four runs in the frame and finished out an 8-2 baseball victory over Montezuma on Friday, June 14.

Montezuma was limited to four hits by a pair of North Mahaska pitchers.

The lower end of the batting order generated most of the Braves’ offense.

Broox Stockman, Easton Hudnut, Rett Pargeon and Jack Erselius had one hit each for the Braves.

Stockman and Jack Erselius added stolen bases, and Pargeon batted in one run.

Dane Strong also stole a base for the Braves.

Monteuma was pretty sound defensively, with just two errors.

Luke Erselius started and pitched 5 innings for the Braves. He gave up 6 hits and 3 runs, two earned. He walked one and struck out 7.

Garrett Watts threw 2 innings. He yielded 6 hits and 5 runs, 4 of them earned. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.

Jack Kelderman, who one-hit the Braves in the teams’ previous meeting, pitched 6 innings this time, and got an inning of relief help.

The Braves fell to 3-7 on the season.

North Mahaska went to 8-8.
