Warhawks edge girls to stay unbeaten

NEW SHARON – The Warhawk girls remained unbeaten, but Montezuma gave them a challenge on Monday, June 2.

North Mahaska won it, 5-4, to go to 6-0 on the young season.

The Bravettes outhit North Mahaska 7-4. Kamryn Schmidt went 2-for-3, had a walk, and scored twice.

Mya Smothers, Lauryn Larmore and Lily Ferry all had RBI singles for the Bravettes.

Syd Burgess added a base hit.

Montezuma stole six bases on the night, including two by Schmidt.

Leah Urfer pitched 6 innings for the Bravettes. Of 5 runs allowed, just two were earned. She walked 5 and struck out 3.

Regan Grewe pitched the 7 inning distance for North Mahaska. She yielded 4 runs, 3 of them earned. She walked two and struck out 9.

North Mahaska took its record to 6-0.

The Bravettes went to 2-3.
