Warhawks fly over the Braves, 17-2

The baseball Braves followed up their first win of the season on Wednesday with a 17-2 home loss to North Mahaska on Friday, June 24.

The Warhawks had an 8-2 lead through five innings, but the wheels came off for the Braves when North Mahaska plated nine runs in the sixth.

Of those nine, just one was earned by Montezuma pitcher Garrett Watts as the Braves bunched most of the 10 errors they made in this game.

Eighth grader Broox Stockman went 2×3 at the plate with a double for Montezuma, which made just three hits compared to the Warhawks’ 11.

Carsten James got credited with a run batted in for Montezuma. He also stole a base.

Colton Benson had Montezuma’s other hit and Jack Erselius had two stolen bases.

Benson pitched the first five innings for the Braves. He yielded six hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Watts gave up five hits while walking one and striking out two.

Nash Smith got the pitching win for North Mahaska, allowing three hits over six innings. He walked four and struck out eight.

The loss left Montezuma at 1-13 for the season.

North Mahaska moved to 12-7.
