NEW SHARON – North Mahaska’s game-long effort on defense really paid off in the fourth quarter of their game against Montezuma on Friday evening, Dec. 6.
The game was tied at 36-all through three quarters. But the Warhawks went on a 22-10 run to close out their 58-46 win over the Braves.
Montezuma shot just .262 from the field. Those total included 17 makes in 65 tries, part of which was a 3-for-28 effort on three-pointers.
Montezuma assisted just three of its 17 baskets.
That can lead to defeat . . .and it did.
North Mahaska’s Gabe Hora led the way for the Warhawks, with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
The Warhawks were more efficient in their shooting, going 22-for-51, for .431.
Hora was joined in double figures by teammates Adrian Smith with 12 points and Asher DeBoef with 10.
Brady Boulton scored 25 points for the Braves. He added four rebounds, 5 steals and one assist.
Kohen Holland led Braves rebounders with 12.
The win lifted North Mahaska to a 2-0 start.
Montezuma fell to 1-1.
