NEW SHARON – Montezuma kept the score close, but North Mahaska kept its line moving. The Warhawks emerged with a 4-1 victory in varsity softball action on Monday evening, June 28.
North Mahaska outhit the Bravettes 16-4 and gave itself plenty of scoring opportunities.
Katie Reynolds had a hit for the Bravettes, then a stolen base, and scored her team’s only run behind a single by Izzy Roorda.
The other two Montezuma hits came from Jadyn Sharer and Kailey Shaffer.
Kallie Robison pitched all six innings for Montezuma. Of the four runs she allowed, two were earned. She walked one and struck out four.
Madison McKay was a pitching and hitting star for the Warhawks. She threw all seven innings, allowing one earned run while walking three and striking out 10.
McKay and Zoe Deucore each had three hits, while Regan Grewe and Colby Sampson had four hits each, and drove in three of the team’s four run.
Montezuma fell to 8-16 overall and to 4-10 in league play.
North Mahaska is 14-9 and 10-4.
