North Mahaska started fast and held steady in taking a 7-2 baseball win over the Braves Friday evening, June 26, in Montezuma.
The Warhawks (4-2) scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the third to take command.
North Mahaska outhit Montezuma 10-5.
Cam Johnson led the Braves with a double and had both runs batted in. Connor Van Zee also hit a double.
Getting single hits were Cole Watts, Owen Cook and Preston Hirsch.
Eddie Burgess pitched five innings, allowing nine hits and six runs, five of them earned. He walked one, hit one, and struck out five. He was tagged with the loss.
Watts pitched two innings, allowed one hit and one earned run while walking two and striking out two.
Logan Shipley worked six innings and picked up the victory for North Mahaska. He struck out seven.
Dylan Klinker had two hits, one a double, and drove in two runs for the Warhawks. Four different North Mahaska players had two hits each.
The defeat dropped Montezuma to 3-2 on the season.
