BAXTER – The Bravettes got some good weather to perform in, and they produced.
At first glance, it may appear that Montezuma’s girls track team didn’t fare well, placing seventh in a nine-team field at the Lady Bolt Relays on Thursday, April 21.
But, there were some good teams there. Like Colfax-Mingo (110 points), Madrid (95), Baxter (86), Martensdale-St. Mary’s (75), Des Moines Christian (59) and Pleasantville (50).
The Bravettes put up 41 points.
“Our girls gave many season-best performances,” Coach Megan Carlson said.
“We are excited to try some different combinations to help the girls remain competitive at upcoming meets, as well as the SICL meet,” she said.
Montezuma was able to run three teams in four different relays, and two in a fifth. Split times show there is a lot of sprint parity on the squad, resulting in competition for spots.
“It helps us see where everyone is at and what we need to focus on as we enter the championship portion of the season,” Carlson said.
Carlson noted that the great weather and stiff competition at this meet helped the Bravettes to sharpen their saw.
Katie Reynolds was Montezuma’s lone event winner, claiming the 200-meter dash in 28.04 seconds.
Montezuma earned scoring place finishes in five relays. The 4×800 and 4×400 squads took thirds, the shuttle hurdle team placed fourth, and the distance medley and 4×200 quartets took sixths
In other individual events, Taya Sincox high jumped 4-6 to tie for third, while Ellen Cook took fifth at 4-4. Coral Lowry also cleared 4-4, but finished seventh – one below where she needed to produce a team point.
Aja Kapayou was sixth in the long jump, and Shanae Wetering was sixth in the shot put.
