With the MHS class of ’67 returning this weekend for their 55th year reunion, you may bump into those who graced our football field 56 years ago.

In the fall of 1966, the schools’ big attractions were Braves football, enthusiastic cheerleaders and an awesome Marching Band with out-of-this-world pregame and halftime programs.

There were NO fall sports for girls at MHS in 1966.  Basketball was the only girls sport at MHS until the Bravettes track debuted in 1971, followed by softball in 1975, XC in 1980, and volleyball in 1988.

The Braves from the fall of ’66 finished second in the always-tough SICL, with a record of 6-2-1 – yes, they had tie games back then with no overtimes to determine a winner.

Seniors Carl Poe, Bill Van Cleave and Joel Grier were named second team all-SICL.  Three other seniors earned all-SICL honorable mention:  Jim Grimes, Shelly Laffe, and Charles Coffey.  Junior Don Ferneau, a member of the MHS HOF, was a 1st team pick.

Welcome back Class of ’67!
