MARENGO – For the second time this season, and at the same track, Montezuma’s girls were able to run a victory lap.
This time it was the sun-splashed Rick Wanamaker Invitational, and the Bravettes put up 155 points, 65 more than second-place BGM.
“The girls took advantage of some great weather and were able to put together a few season-best performances, as well as a dominating first-place team finish,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.
Lynnville-Sully and North Mahaska, the teams that finished ahead of the Bravettes at the conference meet, were not there. Montezuma’s depth was helped mightily.
“The girls scored in every event and showed how depth is an advantage with all the different track events,” Carlson said.
The Bravettes had six first-place finishes, six seconds and three thirds.
Freshman Chloe Snook was in on four victories. She won the long jump at 15-6, and anchored winning Montezuma relays in the 4×100, 4×200 and the sprint medley. (Relay runners are listed below).
Lindsey Henry won the 1,500, and the Bravettes hit the finish line first in the 4×800.
“I am so proud of this group and all of the work that they have put in,” Carlson said.
“We have less than a week of the regular season left and hopefully, we can put a few more things together for a strong finish,” she said.
