GARWIN – If there is a matched pair in area volleyball, it has to be Montezuma and Green Mountain-Garwin.

The two played a five-set match on Tuesday night, Sept. 12, with the Wolverines winning the tie-breaking fifth set by a 15-12 score.

If you add up all of the team points scored over the five sets, it comes out to GMG 104, Montezuma 102.

That’s pretty close!

A great, controlled dig by Laila Kercheval during the GMG match.

And, it came with all the swings in momentum and emotions that volleyball usually brings.

The Wolverines won sets one (25-19) and four (25-21).

Montezuma took sets two (25-18) and three (25-21), to take a 2-1 lead into the fourth.

The rest, as they say, is history.

It was a successful night for Montezuma in the younger matches.

The Bravettes were 2-0 winners (21-8, 21-4) in the freshman match.

Montezuma won the JV match 2-0 on scores of 21-14 and 26-24 in match with a rip-snorting finish.

The varsity result left Montezuma with an overall record of 5-11.

GMG moved forward with a 5-3 season mark.

UP NEXT – BGM comes to Montezuma on Thursday evening, Sept. 14, for the Bravettes’ senior night.
