Work won’t be sent home for students

Dear Montezuma Families:

Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Legislature have indicated they will approve legislation that state schools do not have to make up the time that is missed during this time of shutdown.

We believe that if we are going to require students to complete educational work, then we need to make sure all students have equal access to the work and are also getting the educational support they need to be successful.

We cannot ensure that all students have access to technology or internet access and we cannot meet with them to provide additional services. We also understand that in many cases, older students are caring for younger students.

As a result, we are not going to be sending work home for students to complete or require them to complete online learning material.

If a student is in a college credit course, additional guidance will be provided.

The request has been made by several students to come to school and pick up items that they would like at home. If a student needs something from school they should contact Becky at the main office at bbryan@montezuma.k12.ia.us.

Our goal is to limit the number of people in the building, so if it is not necessary for students to come to school then we ask that they not come.

We have people asking what is going to happen after April 13. At this time, we are expecting tor eturn to school on April 13 and resume all normal school and extra-curricular activities.

This decision may change depending on what happens in our state and nation.

We will continue to update you with current information as it becomes available.

The school will be offering a grab-and-go breakfast and lunch for children 2-18 years of age beginning on Thursday, March 19.

The hours for breakfast will be from 8:30-9:00 am and lunch will be served from 11:30-12:30 pm.

This will be a drive-up and grab-and-go from the north elementary entrance where the buses pick up at the end of the school day.

As recommended by the CDC and the Governor, children will not be allowed to eat in the building in an effort to reduce social gatherings.

We would appreciate it if you would let Angie know if you would like to participate in the program so we can get an estimate on the number of meals to prepare.

We will email more information as it becomes available to us.
