GRUNDY CENTER – Of 19 teams running in the Sam Iverson Cross Country Invitational, half of them have been state-ranked this season.
Montezuma fared well against them on Thursday, Sept. 22.
The girls placed 11th and the boys 10th – and lost ninth on a tie-breaker.
Ellen Cook, a state qualifier a year ago who’s been battling an injury, posted a career best time. So did Ashlee Eilander and Camryn Brennan.
“Our top five (girls) placed 21-22-22-23-24, which is a good spot to be,” said Coach Kevin Gartman.
On the boys side, we had four runners in the 19’s (minutes) and a fifth just over 20,” said the coach.
“We’ve got lots to be happy about on a beautiful night,” he said.
MONTEZUMA – Didn’t run in Tuesday’s Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Invite, which was postponed by heat to Thursday. But the Braves and Bravettes had originally committed to run at Grundy Center.
