7th grade girls drop Bolts, 20-15

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade basketball girls hosted the Baxter Bolts on Thursday, January 11.

Baxter was an aggressive team that liked to press. Monte is also an aggressive team which pressed a lot for the first time.

Monte led a defensive first quarter with the score of 4-1. At the half both teams were struggling to score, Monte led 8-4.

In the third quarter, both teams found some baskets. Baxter won the quarter 9-8 but Monte led 16-13. Baxter scored early in the 4th quarter to cut the lead to one point at 16-15. But, the Bravettes slammed the door shut to win 20-15.

Monte shot 9-47 (19%) from the field, 0-3 from the 3-point line and 2-6 (33%) from the free throw line. Baxter shot 6-29 (21%) from the field, 0-1 from the 3-point line and 3-6 (50%) from the free throw line. Baxter outrebounded Monte 36-29. The Bolts had 32 turnovers while the Bravettes only had 17.

Brielle Haughey had a big game. She scored 16 points, had 12 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks. Brylee Latcham had 2 points and 4 steals. Mallory Warden also had 2 points and 4 steals. Keegan Gunderson had 7 rebounds. Lily Moyer and Kady Schmidt each had a block.

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade moves to 6-2 on the season. They host Belle Plaine on Tuesday, January 16.
