A-team stays with L-S until late

The Montezuma Bravettes A-team hosted the Lynnville-Sully Hawks on Thursday, Jan. 25. The Hawks are the top junior high girls team in the South Iowa Cedar League.

The Bravettes jumped to a quick 2-0 lead on a power move by Lauryn Larmore. Monte had a 6-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Hawks rallied in the second quarter. They hit a buzzer-beater to take a 12-10 lead at half.

The Hawks continued the pressure early in the second half and took a 16-11 lead. Monte fought back with a dazzling runner from Alexa Rose followed by a 3-pointer from Brylee Latcham to tie it at 16-16 at the end of the third quarter.

But, Lynnville-Sully would dominate the 4th quarter to win 29-16.

Monte struggled from the field going 7-44 (16%), 1-14 (7%) from the 3-point line and 1-2 (50%) from the free throw line. L-Sully shot 13-50 (25%) from the field, 0-1 from long distance and 3-8 (38%) from the free throw line. The Hawks dominated the boards 47-30. Monte had 11 turnovers while L-Sully had 10.

Lauryn Larmore had 5 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Alexa Rose had 4 points and a block. Brylee Latcham had 3 points on a triple with a block. Ryanne Williams played super defense. She scored 2 points and had 5 rebounds. Brielle Haughey had 2 points, 7 rebounds and a block. Olivia Latcham had a block.

The Montezuma Bravettes A-team moves to 3-6 on the season. They travel to Belle Plaine on February 1 and finish their season at North Mahaska on February 5.
