The Montezuma Bravettes A-team hosted a strong Baxter team on Thursday, January 11. It was the Bravettes’ first game in a month and they definitely looked rusty at times.

The Baxter Bolts brought a physical team that had only one loss on the season. The Bolts jumped out early to an 8-0 lead. Monte fought back late in the quarter as Alexa Rose hit a 2 and a 3. Baxter led 10-6 at the quarter.

The Bolts continued to frustrate the Bravettes as they pushed the lead to 18-11 at the half.

Monte made a run led by Lauryn Larmore when she hit a 3, then was fouled shooting a 3 and she made all the free throws. Monte trailed by only 1 heading into the 4th quarter (25-24). The bad news is that Monte was held scoreless as Baxter pulled away to win 34-24.

Montezuma had its worst shooting game going 5-39 (13%) from field, 2-13 (15%) from 3-point range and 12-19 (63%) from the free throw line.

Baxter shot 16-46 (35%) from the field, 1-7 (14%) from long distance and 1-6 from the free throw line. Baxter outrebound Monte 39-32. Both teams had a lot of turnovers with 30 each.

Lauryn Larmore led the way with 12 points including one 3-pointer, 5 rebounds and 6 steals. Alexa Rose had 9 points including a 3-pointer. Rosie also had 5 steals. Ryanne Williams had 1 point, a career high 13 rebounds and 4 steals. Sophia Semprini had 2 points and 8 rebounds.

The A-team moves to 3-5 on the season. They host Belle Plaine on Tuesday, January 16.
