Braves drop thriller to C-M, 7-6

COLFAX-MINGO – Walk-off wins are cool . . .if you’re the team that makes the opponent do the walking.

That didn’t happen for the Braves on Monday, June 19 at Colfax-Mingo.

What was cool for Montezuma, though, was scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning ato tie Colfax-Mingo at 6-6.

But the TigerHawks pushed a run across in their half of the seventh, to “walk if off” with a 7-6 baseball win over the Braves.

There was a lot of action in this one: A combined 14 hits . . .and 10 errors. . .by these teams.

Garrett Watts was heavily involved for the Braves. He went two-for-four with a run batted in and two stolen bases.

He started on the mound, working 4.1 innings. He surrendered 5 hits and 5 runs – but just one run was earned. He walked four and struck out three.

Owen Cook was one of four Braves with one hit each. His was a double.

Cruz De Jong drove in a run with his hit. Broox Stockman did the same.

Lars Taylor hit a double, and Carsten James stole two bases.

Luke Erselius pitched an inning, allowing an earned run. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out one.

Colton Benson pitched an inning and was tagged with the pitching loss. He yielded one hit and one run – an unearned run. The Braves made six of the errors in this game.

The Braves fell to 6-6 on the season.

Colfax-Mingo is 7-9.

The Braves are home to HLV on Wednesday, June 21.
