Boys Head Track Coach
I was very pleased with how we competed in the SICL track meet, run on April 30 and May 3 in Marengo.
The Braves placed fourth with 93 points. Iowa Valley won with 132, North Mahaska was second with 108 and Lynnville-Sully placed third with 100.5.
Being in the top four of the conference is a good thing and we were right there with the leaders for most of meet.
In the sprints, we had a headwind so our times were a bit down from normal but that impacted every team. When it came to placement, we did a really good job.
Our senior leaders had a good night and they led very well in their last conference meet. We were able to double-place in the 100, 110 highs, 200, and long jump. That helps in the standings.
Kenny Criswell, Garrett Watts, David Rose, Damien Knox and Broox Stockman all were able to get points in four events. Getting points like that does a lot of damage.
Our distance crew had a very nice night as Jayden Ross placed in the 3,200. Luke Erselius ran a personal record (PR) time in the 800.
Our 4×800 team placed 4th and was able to improve their time by a couple of seconds.
Rett Pargon and Linkyn Bru both ran really well in the 1,600, however, their times were not verified as that was the last race that was run on Tuesday and they stopped the timer after the top 8 finished. I had Pargeon at a 5:25 and Bru around a 5:50.
In our relays, we had PR times in the sprint med with a great performance out of Bryson Stockman in the 400 of that event. In the 4×200 we ran a PR time in a very close race that was 2nd.
The 4×100 was very similar with our team running a PR time and a second place finish. Our 4×400 was able to cut 5 seconds off of their time I was very pleased with that. That crew just keeps getting better as the meets go on.
In the hurdles we had a nice night with our shuttle placing 1st and 110 highs going 2nd and 3rd. Bryson Stockman was able to put in another great performance in the 400 lows to place in that as well.
In the long jump and high jump, both Damien Knox and Garrett Watts were able to put in PR effprts. They both have been working very hard at their crafts and they are getting better each meet.
In the throws, we competed well but had a headwind into the throws. Beau and Briar did a nice job and are working on improving their technique as we move into the final week of the season.
Now, our focus goes to improving where we can in order to get ready for districts.
