It was close at the top in SICL girls meet

MARENGO – To be sure, there is some talent in SICL girls track and field this spring. Take a look at the team points in the conference meet: four teams over 100.

None of them were Montezuma, which has had its moments. As it was, the Bravettes scored 52 points and tied Sigourney for seventh place.

This meet began on Tuesday, April 30, and was suspended by weather with two relays left to run. The meet was completed on Friday, May 3.

Coach Megan Carlson of the Bravettes said her girls did not attend on Friday, “for a variety of reasons. They are focusing on the next phase of the season,” she said.

Chloe Snook burns around a curve in the 200-meter dash. She had two personal bests at the SICL meet.

This meet is the start of the championship portion of the season and the girls walked away with several season- and lifetime-best performances,” Carlson said.

Chloe Snook came away with a second in the long jump and in the 400-meter dash. She also placed third in the 100.

Chloe had a great night, with a personal record in the long jump and in the 400,” the coach said. “She did have an even better long jump mark but fell back some in the pit.”

Our team score would be missing the last two events of the evening and we would have been able to move up some in the team scores,” Carlson said.

But even so, they were a long ways from contending for team honors.

The Bravettes got a third-place finish in the sprint medley, with Lily Ferry, Vivian Cook, Syd Burgess and Kami Mathes carrying the baton.

The girls competed hard, encouraged each other, and continued to improve,” said their coach. “With only two meets remaining, we need to stay focused, support each other, and take care of our bodies.”
