Braves hoopsters a brainy bunch!

Montezuma’s boys basketball team was honored by food, awards and bowling at Star Lanes on Sunday, Jan. 25.

Academic accolades abounded for this group. The Braves were saluted by the boys’ union for a “distinguished” varsity team honor – the highest given – for an average grade point of above 3.25.

Eleven Braves received the SICL conference’s all-academic award, for averages above 3.5 in the previous semester.

SICL All-Academic honorees are: Alex Black, Brady Boulton, Luke Brennan, Linkyn Bru, Jack Erselius, Easton Hudnut, David Rose, Briar Simpson, Broox Stockman, Bryson Stockman and Garrett Watts.

Jack Erselius and Alex Black were co-winners of the “Team Together Award.”

On the basketball court, Brady Boulton was voted first team all-conference by the league’s coaches.

Garrett Watts was a second team all-conference pick.

Max Anderson and Kohen Holland received all-SICL honorable mention.

In Iowa Basketball Coaching Association honors, 8 players were chosen from Montezuma’s 18-team substate. Boulton was a first-team all-substate choice.

Boulton tied a school record when he nailed 10 three-point baskets in one game.

Jack Erselius and Alex Black were co-winners of the “Team Together Award.” This award, which is voted on by the team members, goes to the player(s) that was a tremendous teammate and always put the team first.
