Colfax-Mingo girls come out swinging

COLFAX ā€“ Montezuma’s softball team had 28 hits during two wins in their own tournament on Saturday, June 17.

It looked like the Bravettes were going to pick up where they left off when they scored three runs in the first inning on Monday, June 19, at Colfax-Mingo.

But, it was the home team that wore the bigger hitting shoes in this game.

The Tigerhawks scored 9 runs in the first inning, and went on to a 12-6 win over the Bravettes.

Colfax-Mingo totaled 15 hits against two pitchers.

Bravettes starter Kallie Robison was relieved after she faced the first seven hitters. She struck out one, but she yielded six runs, all earned, before being relived by Leah Urfer.

Urfer, an eighth grader, had her longest outing, 5.2 innings. She gave up nine hits and 6 more runs, three of which were earned. She walked one and struck out two.

Six different Bravettes had one hit each.

Chloe Snook hit a double and knocked in two runs.

Ellen Cook doubled in a run.

Madison Van Zee drove home a run with a single.

Kamryn Smith singled and stole a base.

Izzy Roorda singled in a run.

And Vivian Cook hit a single.

Charlotte Donahue had three hits and three RBIs for Colfax-Mingo. Caylee Cunningham had three hits and drove in two runs.

The TigerHawks stole six bases, three of those by Abigale Rawlins.

Montezuma fell to 9-10.

Colfax-Mingo moved on at 11-8.
