It would be safe to say the Bravettes hadn’t played against a team like Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont this season.
The one-loss Rockets, the number 5 team in Class 2A, outscored Montezuma, number 8 in Class 1A, in all four quarters of a 73-32 win on the Bravettes’ floor on Friday, Feb. 2.
To their credit, the Bravettes, who scored 13 points in the first half, put up that many in the third quarter alone, then added 11 more in the fourth.
EBF was up 36-13 at halftime.
Something got better, and if the girls are to get good things from playing this opponent, they will manifest soon, because they’re only one game away from post-season play.
The Bravettes were reduced pretty much to basic terms by the Rockets’ defense. They shot just .250 from the field. And just Ellen Cook and Shiressa Wetering (11 points each) reached double figures.
Only three other Montezuma players scored, with Jadyn Sharer in next wity 5 points.
Ellen Cook had some other numbers that were good: 3-for-9 from three-point range, 6 rebounds, two assists, two steals and 5 deflections against a very good offensive team.
The Rockets shot .585 from the field and left town with a 17-1 record.
The Bravettes, who had won 15 in a row, stand at 17-3.
