7th graders pull away from Belle Plaine, 27-12

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th grade team traveled to Belle Plaine to play the Plainsmen on February 2.

The Bravettes started slowly as they learned how to break the Belle Plaine 2-3 zone. The Plainsmen led 4-2 with a minute to go in the first quarter. But, Brylee Latcham hit her first three-pointer of the game to give the Bravettes a 5-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Monte slowly extended its lead to 10-4 at halftime.

The Bravettes started finding more holes in the Belle Plaine defense in the second half. Monte scored 7 in the 3rd quarter and 10 in the 4th quarter to win 27-12.

Monte shot 11-43 (26%) from the field and 5-15 (33%) from 3-point range. Belle Plaine shot 6-23 (26%) from the field, 0-4 from 3-point range and 0-3 from the free throw line. Monte out-rebounded the Plainsmen 28-22. Monte had 19 turnovers while BP had 26 turnovers. 

Brylee Latcham had her best game. She had a 3-pointer in all four quarters for 12 points. Brylee also had 6 steals and a block.

Brielle Haughey had another solid game with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Kady Schmidt also had a nice game with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Mallory Warden had a 3-pointer. Mall also had 3 steals. Keegan Gunderson had a block. 

The Montezuma Bravettes 7th graders move to 6-3 on the season. They conclude their season on February 5 at North Mahaska.
