Four Braves honored by SICL coaches

Garrett Watts hums that seed during recent action. He was a unanimous all-SICL first team pick.

Four Montezuma Braves have been chosen to various all-SICL conference teams by the league’s coaches.

Junior outfielder-pitcher Garrett Watts was a unanimous first team selection.

Senior Owen Cook made the second team as a pitcher.

Senior infielder-pitcher Colten Benson earned honorable mention, as did freshman utility player and pitcher Luke Erselius.

Watts was a .452 hitter for the Braves, going 28-for-62 on the season, with an on base percentage of .469 and a slugging percentage of .576.

His 12 runs and 32 total bases led the Braves.

Watts hit four doubles and drove in 6 runs. He was 16-for-18 on stolen bases, tops on the team, and fielded .880 on 25 chances.

As a pitcher, he appeared in seven games, six of them as the starter. His won-loss record was 2-3. He pitched 29.1 innings, allowing 29 hits and 25 runs, 14 of them earned.

Watts walked 28 batters and struck out 30, and had an earned run average of 3.34 per seven innings.

Owen Cook is ready to blaze one in there.

Owen Cook appeared in and started 8 games as a pitcher, with a 4-3 record.

Probably his most notable feat was an earned run average of .068. He yielded 19 runs, but just five were earned.

Cook pitched 51.0 innings and opponents batted just .162 against him . He walked 18, and struck out 78.

Cook as a batter hit .292, with four doubles and five runs batted in. He was seven-for-eight on stolen bases. He was a .918 fielder on 61 chances.

Senior Colton Benson was a .236 hitter with three doubles and five runs batted in. He was three-for-three in stolen bases.

A first baseman and pitcher, Benson was a .973 fielder on 75 chances.

As a pitcher, Colton appeared in six games, with one start. He didn’t figure in a decision.

Benson pitched 9.0 innings, and opponents hit .421 against him. He allowed eight runs, six of them earned and had an earned run average of 4.67.

Freshman Luke Erselius was a .256 hitter, with two doubles and four runs batted in. He scored 10 runs, which was second on the team, and went four-for-five in stolen bases. He was a .765 fielder on 34 chances.

As a pitcher, Luke appeared in eight games with one start and had a 1-1 won-loss recod.

He worked 12.2 innings. Opponents hit .258 against him. His earned run average was 6.08.

Luke walked nine hitters and struck out nine.
