Fans watching Saturday’s Class 1A state championship telecast on Iowa Public Television may have been startled to see two smiling faces walk through their screen and into their living room.
“Hey, that’s, that’s . . . Izzy Roorda and Curtis Bolen,” from Montezuma!
MHS senior Isabella (“Izzy”) Roorda was honored by the Iowa Bankers Association with one of their Student Achievement Award scholarships.
Bolen, of Capra Bank in Montezuma, represented the banker’s group.
The scholarship is worth $1,000 from the association to the student-athlete’s college of choice.
Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic performance, athletic participation, leadership skills and community involvement.
The IBA annually honors six state football tournament players, four state tournament basketball players and one state wrestler.
