Ellen Cook rips a double - the only hit allowed by HLV pitcher Hailey Jack.

HLV junior Hailey Jack and Montezuma senior Kallie Robison locked into a dandy of a pitcher’s duel in Wednesday night softball on June 21 in Montezuma.

Jack and the Warriors won the game, 2-0.

Jack threw a masterful one-hit shutout, topping Robison’s stellar five-hit effort.

Montezuma’s seniors and parents were honored before the HLV game. The seniors are Kalynn Wanders, Abby Pope and Kallie Robison.

The Warriors scored single runs in the first and sixth innings.

Jack backed her own effort with an RBI-single, while the Warriors’ McKenzie Kempf blasted a solo home run.

Ellen Cook hit a double for Montezuma’s only hit.

Two walks were Montezuma’s only other offense, plus a stolen base by Vivian Cook, who drew one of those bases on balls.

Jack struck out 11 Bravettes batters in addition to the two she walked.

Robison scattered the five hits she allowed. Both runs against her were earned. She didn’t walk anyone and also struck out 11.

The Bravettes fell to 9-11 overall.

HLV went to 10-6 on the season.

Montezuma is at Lynnville-Sully on Friday, June 23, then plays in the Melcher-Dallas tournament on Saturday.
