MARENGO – Winter finally went to Michigan.

So, Montezuma and area girls descended on Marengo for the first outdoor meet ot the track season for the Bravettes on Monday, April 8.

It was a beautiful night to get out and compete and the first chance for the girls with an outdoor meet,” said Montezuma Coach Megan Carlson.

The Bravettes didn’t disappoint, placing fourth in a seven-school meet that displayed a lot of parity among this all-SICL field.

Chloe Snook led our charge, winning or tying for first in all four of her events,” Carlson said.

The coach quickly added, “she officially was awarded second place in the 200-meter dash.”

Snook and the official winner hit the tape in a near dead heat. This early in the season, a good effort and a decent time are all that’s really important, unless you’re involved in a close race for the team title, and Montezuma wasn’t.

Snook also won the long jump at 15-7, the 100-meter dash in 13.60, and anchored the Bravettes’ winning sprint medley. Her teammates in that race were Kami Mathes, Vivian Cook and Sydnee Burgess.

Chloe has put in a lot of time and it has been fun watching her mature and start to take more ownership in her events,” Carlson said.

Carlson noted that the Bravettes placed well in a number of events. “That shows that depth is important in conference events,” she said.

I am proud of how the girls supported each other, even with a few of them not feeling their best,” she said.

Moving forward,we are going to focus in improving and figuring out where we need to put everyone,” Carlson said.

We have a young team that is willing to do a variety of things and we will need to continue to be creative to get the most out of our lineups.”
