A-girls lose intense game, 27-20

The Montezuma Bravettes A-team traveled to North Mahaska to face the Warhawks in both teams’ final games of the season.

Similar to most Montezuma vs North Mahaska games, this would be a very intense and exciting game.

Olivia Latcham got the Bravettes’ only basket in the first quarter as North Mahaska led 5-2 at the break.

Ryanne Williams scored both of the Bravettes’ baskets in the second quarter. North Mahaska had a slight end at halftime (8-6). 

The Bravettes took a short lead at 13-11 in the third when Lauryn Larmore hit a 3-pointer. But, the Warhawks would rally late in the third quarter to take a 16-15 lead.

North Mahaska hit key shots early in the fourth quarter and then held off the Montezuma comeback. The final score was 27-20 in favor of the Warhawks. 

Monte shot 8-50 (16%) from the field, 2-23 (9%) from the 3-point arc and 2-2 (100%) from the free throw line. North Mahaska shot 11-34 (32%) from the field, 1-6 (17%) from the 3-point arc and 4-11 (36%) from the free throw line. North Mahaska outrebounded Monte 40-28. Monte had only 8 turnovers while forcing 18.

Ryanne Williams had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Lauryn Larmore had 5 points including one trey and 5 rebounds. Brylee Latcham hit a trey for 3 points. Alexa Rose had 2 points and 3 steals. Olivia Latcham had 2 points. Brielle Haughey had 3 steals. 

The A-team finishes its season at 4-7. As 7th graders, their record was 9-2. Therefore, the 8th graders finish their 2-year JH record at 13-11.
