The return of winter last week wasn’t good to spring sports student-athletes.

But Montezuma Fellowship of Christian Athletes members, student-athletes from other schools, and a total of 160 volunteers found a worthwhile way to spend part of a day on Saturday, April 6.

Montezuma and other area students are busy packing meals.

They joined forces to pack 46,232 meals to be sent to hungry children in Iowa, across the U.S., and around the world!

The organization they worked through was Des Moines-based Meals from the Heartland, which distributes the meals.

Students from Lynnville-Sully, North Mahaska, BGM, Iowa Valley and Belle Plaine joined those from Montezuma and community volunteers.

Students and community volunteers, totaling 160 people in all, get instructions before packing meals.

After the meal-packing, students adjourned to the auditorium for an FCA meeting, called a huddle, that included a game, praise music, testimonies and a message from MHS senior Laila Kercheval.

Pizza and fellowship ā€“ and the good feelings that come from knowing you’ve helped needy children ā€“ concluded the event.
