Former MHS hoopsters produce in college

Three former Montezuma High School basketball players turned in strong seasons on the hardwood in 2023-24.

Shateah Wetering
University of Northern Iowa

Shateah transferred from Iowa before the season, and found a playing home. She started in 30 of UNI’s 31 games through the regular season, one in which the Panthers qualified for the women’s NIT.

Wetering averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for the Panthers. She had 40 assists, 24 steals and blocked 13 shots.

Shateah shot .456 from the field, including .349 on three-pointers.

UNI was 16-15 heading into post-season play.

Trey Shearer
Truman State University

Trey will be a May graduate with two years of eligibility left. He’s looking for a school where he can pursue his Master’s degree and continue his collegiate basketball career.

A point guard, Shearer started 29 games and averaged 12.8 points and 3.0 rebounds. He shot .472 from the field, including .400 on three-pointers. He made 64 of those, tops on the team.

Shearer had 84 total assists and 22 steals.

His team went 15-14 through regular season play.

Dylan Holland
Simpson College

Dylan was a season-long starter, averaged 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds.

She shot 44% on field goals,including .278 on three-pointers.

She had 27 assists, 16 steals and two blocked shots.

Dylan is a 6-foot junior front court player
