Head boys track coach
The boys competed well on both nights.
Down at Winfield, we battled rain, cold, and bigger schools on Thursday, April 18. Despite the conditions, our efforts were great.
They did not contest any of the field events due to the wet conditions. We had some good times in our relays, sprints, hurdles, and distance events.
Any given night we see guys step up and give a great time, or effort in an event. The guys know that weather is something but effort is something we can control and our guys are always giving that.
While it was a long trip down there it is very nice to go out and see what we can do against non-SICL competition.
Seeing new faces and bigger competition is always welcomed as that helps push times. We were a couple of points out of 2nd place at the meet with 4 schools within 6 points.
Making a trip that was within the county was welcomed on Friday, April 19, at BGM.
We got home around 11 the night before and rested up to come back and build off of the night before.
We had tired and sore legs, as was the case with most of the schools there on Friday. That however did not stop the guys from competing and their effort was great.
The wind was very strong and temps were not great but we knew we had to run. We were able to do field events at BGM so that was a plus!
Our distance guys did a really good job handling the wind with an effective strategy. The backstretch was the worst part of the wind so any event that had to go around the track had to deal with it.
Again it was a team effort as we had many guys step up and get points for us when we needed it. We were able to get 2nd place on the night and that was pretty good to see.
Below is a list of guys who PR’d one of the two nights in an individual event.
Kenny Criswell- 100
Luke Brennan- 100
Easton Hudnutt- 400
Kohen Holland- 400
Linkyn Bru- 3200
Garrett Watts- 110 High Hurdles
Damien Knox- 110 High Hurdles and Long Jump
There were various split PR’s and season-bests as well. The guys are stepping up and its pretty cool to see them continue to grow.
We will have two nights next week with some good competition.
Eddyville runs a great meet and while there is a big and small class there but they have similar times run together regardless of class and sort it out up in the box. It is a unique way to do it but provides our top times to race against other top times and that is what we like to see!
Grundy is also another competitive meet with some big schools. Both meets allow teams to run multiple relays and 3 in the individual events which allows for all the guys to get in good work. I am excited to see how the guys do this week.
