Boys perform well at SICL Indoor Meet

Alex Black works hard in a sprint race for the Braves.

Overall I was very pleased with our efforts in the indoor meet. Our guys came out and competed well and had some fun doing it.

The SICL Indoor Meet was run Monday, March 18, at Grinnell College.

In the field events, we had some nice throws out of Briar Simpson and Beau Young. Briar was 2 inches off his personal record and Beau had a nice start to his career.

In the long jump, Damien Knox jumped well, but I know he is looking to improve and Evan Haughey had a nice start to his career.

In the high jump, Garrett Watts did well but also knows there is room for improvement.

In the sprints, we competed well. The whole 60m crew did a real nice job. Kenny Criswell and David Rose ran personal best and Alex Black and Jack Erselius ran close to PR times.

In the 200m Kenny ran faster than he did last year in that meet and Connor Smith ran well for his first meet. In the 400 Bryson Stockman ran faster than he did last year and Easton Hudnut set a good mark to start the year.

Garrett Watts gets out quickly in the 60-meter hurdles. (Submitted).

The hurdlers did a great job in their only event of the night. Garrett, Damien, and Broox Stockman all ran PRs. Garrett and Damien put in times close to a second faster than thier times last year.

Our distance guys did a good job as well. In the 800. Luke Erselius ran faster than he did last year at this time. Owen Desrochers, Beau Young and Linkyn Bru all ran very well considering it was thier first varsity 800. All three turned in PR times.

In the 1600 we competed very well with Jayden Ross and Cael Cheney putting in some very consistent laps.

In the 4×800 we ran well matching our best time from last year. Rett Pargeon started us off with a PR run of 2:20 and Kohen Holland continued that trend.

Jayden Ross and Luke Erselius both turned in some good times on that as well.

In the 4×200 we had two competitive groups get after it. We got a lot of splits that race and I was very pleased with how the guys ran.

In the distance medley, we were pretty young and I thought the guys competed well. Rett Pargeon turned out a very good split on his 2nd 800 of the night.

Our 4×400 also ran well with Easton, Rhett, Luke Brennan, and Bryson. I saw some guys competing very well to the end.

Being the first meet I was pleased but as always there is room for improvement. Handoffs, blocks, pacing are all things that need to be improved as the season progresses but it was a fun way to start the year!

Garrett Watts is up and over 5-6 in the high jump at the SICL Indoor Meet. (Submitted).
