The Montezuma Braves are seventh in the first Associated Press Class 8 rankings of the new season.
Two teams in Montezuma’s district, New London (third) and Iowa Valley (sixth) are rated above the Braves. District member HLV received one poll point, good for 23rd in the first rankings.
Here are the ratings: 1) Don Bosco. 2) Tabor. 3) New London. 4) Remsen St. Mary’s. 5) Turkey Valley. 6) Iowa Valley. 7) Montezuma. 8) Newell-Fonda. 9) Audubon. 10) Northwood-Kensett.
Southeast Warren, which fell to the Braves in the season opener, was one of the teams also receiving votes, and was in the 11th spot.
Montezuma hosts Colo-Nesco on Friday evening.
