Runners get away to a quick start

IOWA CITY – Competing in a mixed field that included some larger schools, the Bravettes held their own, finishing 5th place and a few points shy of 4th place Newton.

The season-opening meet was the Williamsburg Invitational, held in Iowa City on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

The Bravettes were led by junior Elise Boulton, who placed 10th with a time of 21:51.

Freshmen Madison Johannes and Mia Boulton finished their first high school 5K races and set quick standards to beat as the season goes on.

Notable performances across the board were highlighted by sophomore Rebeka Teumer and junior Alyssa Cline, who both posted career personal best times by approximately a minute and a half over all races last year.

Freshman Sadie DeJong and junior Katie Probasco finished their first races as well.

On the high school boys side, three runners, including two newcomers to the sport, finished their races.

Junior Brydon Henning finished his first cross country race with a time of 19:46, a 6:22 average mile pace over the 3.1 miles. Senior Zach Templeton finished a very strong race as well.

UP NEXT – The Montezuma Cross Country teams, both high school and junior high, will compete Tuesday, September 10th, at Grinnell. The meet is held at Ahrens Park.
