At the club’s Feb. 26 meeting the Montezuma Lions Club approved a slate of annual donations totaling $4,400.

Of that total, $900 was awarded locally, including $600 to the Montezuma Food Pantry, $300 to the After Prom program, and $200 to the Montezuma Shooting Sports organization.

The Iowa Lions Foundation will receive $1,700.

The foundation supports Iowa Lions’ major projects including Iowa KidSight, the Iowa Lions Eye Bank, the Iowa Cornea Implant Center, the Iowa Lions Hearing Aid Bank, the Iowa School for the Deaf, and diabetes education programming.

Separately, other Lions-related programs receiving funds include $200 to Camp Hertko Hollow, for children with diabetes; $200 to Leader Dogs for the Blind, and $200 to the Lions-sponsored week at Camp Courageous of Iowa for a camp experience for individuals of all ages with disabilities.

An annual donation of $1,000 is directed to Lions Clubs International Foundation. Through it emergency relief and humanitarian assistance is provided world-wide after disasters. The foundation is a world leader in the effort to prevent avoidable blindness. It is often referred to as the “Red Cross” of Lionism.
