Coach Beck is glad he made the call

PARKERSBURG – Coach John Beck and his Montezuma boys track team have a good thing going this spring. When weather canceled a meet last week, Beck called and was invited to a multi-school event at Aplington-Parkersburg on Friday, April 12.

The Braves delivered with some strong performances to keep themselves on track.

Such as in the 110-meter high hurdles, where Damien Knox and Garrett Watts quickly stepped to the front and generated a 1-2 Montezuma finish.

Their times were good, 15.71 and 15.94. Anything under 16 seconds in early April is pretty darn good. The results sheet says Knox won. A post-race photo that was taken of the pair might indicate Watts won.

No matter. Montezuma went one-two, and the fate of the free world doesn’t depend on it!

Watts hit gold again by going 6-0 to win the high jump.

Knox got out to 19-1 in the long jump and earned third with that.

The Braves won the 440 hurdle shuttle. We don’t have runners names as of this writing – it was a busy weekend!

Montezuma was second in the 4×800 relay.

David Rose ran a quick 24.12 to take third in the 200-meter dash.

Hampton-Dumont won this 10-team meet with 95 points. The Braves were a competitive sixth place with 67 points.
